Roberto Carlos Martinez
Curator, Community Archvist, Culture Worker
Roberto Martinez is an independent curator and cultural organizer based in Oakland, California, with over a decade of experience developing community-centered exhibitions and public programs. His curatorial practice is rooted in the belief that art is practical, transformative, and essential to imagining more just, compassionate, and equitable futures. His work is influenced by the powerfully creative approach of the Zapatistas and the Xicano Arts Movement.
Working collaboratively with artists and grassroots organizations, Roberto develops projects that embrace art, subversive curatorial practices, and community archives to center de-colonial memories and uplift legacies of resistance. He is committed to organizing from the bottom up and co-creating exhibitions that uplift collective histories, ancestral memory, and shared visions for liberation.
Most recently, Roberto served as Director of Exhibitions at EastSide Arts Alliance and the Richmond Art Center.
